I have a fault code P1631 on my Tdci 2.0 The read out describes PCM main relay. open circuit I believe this is the Ecu . I am thinking of sending it away for repair rather than replacing the unit as i have been quoted over £990 from ford . as anyone else had one repaired and did it work satisfactory afterwards .Also i believe that repairing the original unit means it will not need re-coding ,can anyone confirm this ? Thanks

Hello

ECU faults are very rare. What are your symptoms?
Have you tried re setting the ECU by disconnecting the battery?
You need to disconnect the battery and leave it for about an hour. After restarting you need to run the engine on fast idle (1400rpm) for 10 minutes and take it for a drive for 15 minutes under various conditions to enable the ECU to re-learn and optimise the injection cycle. Some prefer to leave the battery disconnected overnight to be sure.

Remember to find the radio code as you will need it afterwards. Electric windows will also need resetting.

Check for any loose electrical connections as well.

to reset the ECU, you can also disconnect the batterie, and put the + and - cables to each other for 10 seconds. (learned this from an Volvo mechanic, and it is the same engine like the mondeo)
