So when I fill my car up I always zero everything.

For the first few days the mpg on each trip seems to be live, as up and down when driving.

After a few days stays at let's say 39.8 and doesn't move for about 20 miles

Also the AVG speed seems to always be 30-35mph

Is there a problem with the live readings on each trip? Or is it doing the mpg on the whole tank?

Are there not Two MPG options to show/select?

Current and Average

The "Current" one alters as you accelerate, coast or idle, mine varies from 0.2 to 99.9mpg. don't think that resets.

The "Average" one is since you last reset.and changes slower the longer you leave before resetting

For 2008 models the manual says

Average fuel consumption
Indicates the average fuel consumption since the function was last reset.

Hi

After you zero settings numbers are instantaneous, as you get further into tankful they become average and changes slower over many miles. For example average mpg would only rise on a long journey if you were able to cruise at steady speed using less fuel.

As mentioned its only an average based on the time since the last reset.

I filled up and reset all mine and then drove 100ft from the pump upto the traffic

lights on the main road.

That short distance showed 22mpg, sitting at the lights doing zero mpg the 22

started counting down almost as fast as the seconds i was sitting there.

Pulled away with it on 9 seconds or so and then the average increased to

more than 50mpg. Clear 40mph dual carriageway at night.

Even though the journey ended at 58mpg it was only 10 minutes or so. If i left it

idle for 10 minutes it would have dropped to 29(ish) mpg.

If you want to know the true mpg you should work it out from empty or full tanks

and keep a record of each fill and the distance covered.

When I sit at light ect it goes up lol

So the mpg is on the whole tank, cool just wanted to check as my old car (Audi) was always live

Best I ever got was Gatwick to derby, 6th gear, cruise control on motorwat, 130mpg lol did there and back on quarter tank

Average is between resets, if you never reset it then it could be the average

over years and many thousands of miles.

You can reset it for every trip if you want.

You should reset at every fill up because it also affects your miles to empty reading which is based on the average mpg figure.
