Almost had a disaster yesterday.
Took a wheelchair passenger to the dentist, not problem getting her in or out.
When I came home to wipe down the van, the tailgate switch would not work.
Thank heavens that did not happen when she was onboard. :)
The owners manual mentioned liftgate fuse F65, which I checked and was fine (unfortunately).
Went to bed last night thinking of how to get the tailgate open in an emergency. Woke up this morning wondering how to replace the switch, could it be accessed from the outside.?
That appears not to be the case, but for some strange reason I tried the switch again, and lo and behold it works again as it always has? :(
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have happened.?
I've been to the local Ford dealer, and they are not aware of any override to get it open if the switch fails. I always wondered what I would do if the switch went on my Mondeo, or any car for that matter. My Yaris has the same as well.
It has been opened 12 times this morning with no issues, but of course that leaves us with misgivings 'wil it happen again'?

I would be inclined to replace switch, just in case inside terminals of original are about to breakdown and fail.

I think I'll recommend that to them.

The inside looks to just pop off after you unscrew the tailgate leash.

I was trying to think on why it would start working again and was trying to think if I tried it after testing and reinserting the fuse, and do not think I did.? So perhaps that caused it to reset.?

Still, you never know, it could go again with a wheel chair passenger onboard. At least this van only has one rear seat, so passenger could get lifted out via the offside rear door. The other van has two rear seats, and that would not be an option. :)
