not sure if anyone has come across this before but thought id ask. my Forscan connects to my Mondeo fine, so im fairly sure its not a problem with the kit im using. went to a friends Focus CC (57 plate, 1.6 Petrol, MANUAL gearbox, which is possibly critical) and forscan refuses to connect to the car. the owner went to the car, turned the key and NOTHING. fuel pump doesnt prime, (seems like an immobiliser fault almost) BUT (and here is where the fact its manual is possibly important) and when the ignition is switched on, there is an alarm sounds and it says 'transmission fault' (or similar) in the cluster. ignition comes on as normal, car just wont crank,, no fuel pump noise, just NOTHING (like an immobiliser)

any suggestions? anyone come across it before? not easy where the diagnostic tool cant/wont connect to the ECU.

Thanks in advance

The reason for Forscan not communicating with the vehicle is a symptom of why the engine won’t crank/start.

Try pressing on the centre of the instrument cluster glass and see if the engine will crank or start.

thanks for that info. i will pass this on to the owner and have a look at it when i get 5 mins. hopefully this will work. the car isnt used much during the winter (owner has a 4x4 for winter) but they like to keep it running and use it an odd time per week just to keep everything from getting too seized (brakes etc) which is how this fault was found.

well i have heard back from the owner. they have tried pressing on the cluster in various places (no plastic over it, just over individual dials) including the ccentre of the speedo, the middle of the cluster, on the LCD display etc and no change. car doesnt start/crank. any other ideas?
