Hi All,

 

New member, 1st post.  If I do anything annoying or break any rules it's by accident, sorry!

 

I've got a high mileage 2009 2.0 TDCI Titanium X hatch that had some starting issues over winter.  It'd sat through the snowy weather for about 2 weeks since flattening it's battery.  I knew that my battery was the original item and pretty much done and after some research thought I should change the starter motor as well.  

 

I did this myself yesterday and was pretty pleased too.  The car started instantly, no unusual sounds.  However, on a test drive, the traction control light came on after about half a mile, 2 minutes.  After a stop and re-start, it went off but then came on again after about the same time and accompanied by the check engine light.  The car starts/stops fine.  I do think that it's down on power though, although I've not drive it for 2+ weeks so my memory could be playing tricks.

 

I've never had any lights come on in the 16 months I've had the car, so it's got to be linked to the work I've done.  I've ordered a code reader today, should be here by the end of the week.

 

However, does anyone have any thoughts?  Are there any obvious "gotcha's" or things that I could check?

Jack one wheel at a time and check to see if it spins freely.  Could be rust on

the discs causing some drag or a failing wheel bearing.

 

Check you didnt miss a wire also.

There maybe there are 3 issues.

 

Before the test drive the car hadn't moved in 2 weeks and I could hear the rust on the disks the first few times I pressed the brakes. They could still be binding I guess?

 

As well as the battery/starter, I have suspected for a while that it needs a wheel bearing.  So the inactivity could have cause that.

 

And maybe the EML is me not putting something back correctly when I fitted the starter.

 

A number of things to check.....which gives me hope!

Could be a faulty ABS sensor , I had this on mine and the dash lit up lit a christmas tree with ABS/Traction and EML light and also engine power was reduced by 50 %

Logically, you would hope it’s a sensor not connected or disturbed during the starter replacement.

A quick code scan should point you in the right direction.
