My post went belly up but back box fell off this morning and is just hanging.  Can I just replace rear section?

Its MK3 07 Ghia 2.2Tdci and 115,000 miles.

And how do I get box off myself?

Also as far as I am aware its  the original exhaust from day one.

Thanks and stay safe.

Aslo can I just drive it with back box missing?  I am doing less than 5 miles a week if even that.

No problems with running without the backbox but you could always use some wire temporarily to hold the box up?

I replaced my back box hard part was getting the joint to split as it was well stuck 😂😂,,, hard use an hack saw and carefully cut it from the slots in the joint piece where the clamp fits,,, then just used a flat head screwdriver to open it,, oh I have some car ramps so I just reversed up on them for more room and safety

Back box is one one exhaust hanger just unhook it

Don't think it's wise to run with backbox missing.. Think where the hot fumes will be going?

Thanks all.  The box is hanging down now and dragging along ground.  I looked on u tube and saw that box is held in place with a rubber hanger but getting hook out may be a bit tricky. will have a look tomorrow.

Will I have hot fumes driving 2 or 3 miles once a week??!!

And as I said I dont know what happened to do a double post, I must have hit return by accident.

2 or 3 miles once a week I really wouldn't worry about. So long as you make sure the rest of the pipe is supported further up and it's not putting too much strain on the flexy joints.

Diesel exhaust isn't that hot anyway, you could do hundreds of miles no problem, but it might soot up the underside of the car a bit.

Well I got box off by cutting the hanger bit and it looked as if it just sheered. Not very rusty.

I rang local garage and was told I needed 2 bits!!  total €250.00.

When Iooked online it appear you buy end bit, cut pipe and re join with a clamp!!  And it was €70 on offer!!

Should I shop around?
