Hi all I am looking to upgrade my alloys on 2.0 econetic to Genuine Ford 18s or 19s but have read somewhere they are not compatible? Has anybody done this and if so did they have any issues with clearance etc?

Hi James, I don't know if the 18 or 19s will fit, I very much expect, that unofficially, they would.
The problem is the econetic model is what it is. It was evolved by Ford for efficiency in various areas, fuel cons, rolling road resistance etc, 16" rims and specific tyres. It was "homolgated" in that spec. It is not even approved/homologated for towing a caravan.
Officially, as I am sure you know, we are required to advise our insurance company of ANY modifications. Quite often the insurance company will add additional premium but in the case of changing the spec to something that has not been homolgated for, you could find the Ins Co will refuse cover or even declare the policy null and void should the veh be involved in an accident

Thanks for the info my assumption was that it was something to do with the lower VED rate achieved with the low resistance tyres.
