Having just spent most of this afternoon and evening reading posts on here and other ford forums about PAS fluid I have a major headache!!!

It would appear that most posts say the facelift mondy uses M2C-204 (green) fluid

and pre facelift seem to use the M2C-195 (red) fluid

My mondy is 06 model, built jan 06 and registered march 06 making it a facelift model,

now, steering has been getting heavier over the last 12 months so decided to change fluid, and seeing all the inconsistent posts about which is correct or not, knowing that my fluid is very dark and unrecognisable in colour I dipped the reservoir with clean white tissue paper and over the course of it drying it has turned a reddy brown colour.

In my eyes this was obviously the M2C-195 (red) fluid so,

Has the wrong fluid been put in during one of its ford dealer services? between 2010-2016 (I started my own servicing at 100,000 miles)

If so this has not caused any issues between then and now.

I have gone through all the dealer receipts and not found any that state PAS fluid has been changed, is it part of service schedule?

I have never had the owners manual since purchase to cross reference correct spec fluid.

could my car have an older system fitted that uses the red fluid? (as I believe these cars were assembled in 4 different countries)

when I change it should I just put in the same red fluid or flush it and refill with the green?

and this is my conundrum.

any views or comments greatly welcomed.

Ade

Dont take much notice of the red/green. I have 204 and its definitely red, it

probably depends on the brand.

Never used green powersteering fluid though, always been red.

I suppose the real question is, which spec fluid is correct for my car.

reading posts on forums including this one say that m2c-204 is right for the mk3 facelift, but even according to the ford wiki link that you have on your sig shows that m2c-195 is the correct spec and m2c-204 is for the Mk4.

and it appears the majority of 204 spec is green and 195 spec is red

Power Steering Fluid

Mk1/2 Spec: ESD-M2C-166-H

Mk3 Spec: WSA-M2C195-A

Mk4 Spec: WSS-M2C204-A2 (Hydraulic Fluid 1384110 5U7J-M2C203-AA)

taken from page.

Do I take this as correct and go buy a few litres and do a flush and pray I don't damage rack or pump etc.

I can only find one user manual on the Ford site

2001-2006 labeled 2001 the next was 2007

https://www.ford.co....l=Mondeo (2007)

2001 says 204?

But i have also never seen "green" i am sure it was red in my old mk3 too

Thanks for the link to the ford site, I have searched manuals using my VIN number and the one manual returned shows that the PAS spec is WSS-M2C-204-A, does this mean that the ford wiki site is incorrect!!!

I have google searched the above spec and then opened the first 10 or so returned websites, inc. ebay, amazon vospers etc and they all say this is green fluid.

so, could anybody please tell me the brand of fluid they use or have used if they remembered which is wss-m2c-204-a spec and red.

many thanks

Thanks for catcar link, I entered my VIN number into it and it returned the manual which says the PAS fluid is WSA-M2C-195-A red or WSS-M2C-938-A red which contradicts the Ford owners manual I just downloaded which says WSS-M2C-204-A (which searches reveal as green)from them for 2000-2007 model MK3.

So the conundrum continues, I'm still not convinced which is the correct spec fluid to use.

what I need to find out, is what damage can occur if using the wrong fluid?

Your car is a final facelift model.

The facelift and final facelift model use the fluid shown below.

Hardly any shops sell the correct fluid, and even the stuff in Halfords etc sold as ‘for Ford’ rarely meets the spec. Any Ford dealer will have the correct fluid, and dealers such as Rates or Arnold Clark have ebay listings that are often cheaper than buying in store at a dealers.

The colour is just a colour, the correct spec is the important thing. Buy Ford branded fluid. It is more expensive but is the exact fluid you need.

Forgot to add to my above post:

The mk3 used two different specs of fluid, one for the pre facelift (up to roughly early 2004) and then the fluid I posted above for 2004-2007 cars.
