Side light flicker

Hello. Hope someone can shed some light on this(no pun intended)
57 plate MK4 Mondeo hatch, 150k.
When the car is off and the ignition is off/key is out and I put the sidelights on, every two minutes or so, they dip off/on. This includes the numberplate lights also. It's almost as if someone is sat in the car, and quickly turning the light switch off, then on.
Now I would expect to see a fault like this, if there was a problem with the battery(replaced this week) or the alternator with the car running, but not when it isn't. Is this a Mondeo "wiring trait" somewhere, or a something more sinister? There were some led bulbs in the plate lamp holders when I bought the car, but I've put these back to incandescent bulbs, but the issue persists. Any ideas? Anyone?
