Hi all,

 

Been so long since I was last here. I have a ford loom for 13pin just plug into the lights and plug in a relay and a box thing but something doesn't seem right and my rear indicators (and I guess nothing else rear) works when the loom is plugged in. Please see the pictures:

If you can see my photos, I have two sockets (one black, one white) with loads of pins but only one of those big box things to plug one or the other in. I only have on 4 pin relay in the only 4 pin relay plug.

 

The lights work by pluging the towbar loom into the light cluster and the car loom into the towbar loom but 2 of the cables go (1 to)to the relay and (1 to) one of the big plugs.

 

The book that came with it shows only one big plug and box but 2 relay plugs and 2 relays.

 

I bought this loom off ebay, opened and unused but it seems to be the right llom just slightly different to the book.

 

My question is, why only one big box - should there be two and what is the other one please?

Found out further information:

 

There are two wires coming from the tow-loom from the car-loom that go to the relays before going back to the light cluster, they are fog and indicator.

 

I am guessing the big box is a relay and there chould be another big box relay on the other plug but not sure what code/number for the relay

Did you get the right loom?   Facelift and pre-facelift dedicated looms were different.

 

Not interchangeable.

 

 

Is that the relay to disable the rear fog and reversing lights when a trailer is attached?

Hi, yes it is correct loom as far as I can tell from codes.

I went back down and tested it more,

 

The small relay for the fog I think works – fogs were on while plugged in and off when unplugged - inside relay clean and free moving. The rear side lights work too.

 

There is power to the big relay box.

 
When the indicators are on (using the nearside cluster), there is intermittent power through the tow bar loom to the white plug and it comes back out (intermittent) the big box relay straight to the black plug but not through the wire that goes to the cluster.

 

I am guessing that there should be two big box relays that work with each other, the thing I need to work out now is if the second big box relay is exactly the same as the other one or not.

Okay, I feel really daft now, I looked at the ecat and discovered 2 numbers associated with the big box relay, one that relates to the Volta 8545-1200 that I already have and one that relates to Volta 8545-1214 which I am guessing I need and apparently is a 'Lamp Fail Indicator Relay' which will set me back about £100..... GULP!
