Hiya folks, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'll give it a shot.
So I have an American oldtimer sitting in my garage collecting dust. One of the things that's wrong with it is the starter motor. It is impossible to find an original spare, so I bought an aftermarket starter that is slightly wider, but not as long and heavy as the original one. Because its so wide, its basically touching the exhaust manifold (sits just few millimeters away from it). Is this a disaster waiting to happen with me being stranded somewhere with a dead starter motor or is it not that bad?

Thank you in advance

Hi

Is there room to wrap starter with insulating tape that is normally used to wrap exhaust manifolds.

Or alternatively just wrap exhaust local to starter, this will reduce heat radiation off pipe.

Ceramic coatings are available as well as fibre insulation that looks like cotton wool.

The stuff is a marvel, 10mm (3/8") thick and i can lay a piece on my hand and stick a

blow torch flame on the top and my hand does not get hot at all.

Lots of different exhaust wraps available.
