I've recently bought a 2012 Mondeo (1.6 TDCI 115 PS) and noticed water in the boot under the spare wheel.

The water is getting under the fuel cover (another problem) and I think it's going into the overflow hole below the fuel hole and into the boot. I can't be sure exactly without looking at it properly. Is there a pipe which could have come off the overflow or is it all self contained inside the fuel holster. I can't see anywhere else the water could be going.

Also, there is a gap at the top of the fuel filler cover. Can this be tightened or should I replace it? Replacing it looks like a tricky job.

Thanks.

After lots of searching I think the leak is entering via some air vents underneath the rear bumper panel. I'm still not 100% sure yet. Has anyone else had this problem? I've attached a photo - does anyone know the part number or what the proper name is? Thanks.

I too noticed water under spare wheel, found out when I removed access cover for rear offside light cluster it was leaking, god knows where from, and accumulating at the bottom then spilling into spare wheel. Only does it in heavy rain, I put small towel on floor under rear light cluster and it gets soaked.....

Thanks for the replies. I'll remove the rear bumper sometime this week and focus water on that vent to if it is the problem. Can't find one online yet - Is there an online resource to get OEM part numbers for Ford?

So far I've found 3 leaks. One from the rubber on the rear wiper arm, another on the drivers side rear light cluster and this one. It's like whack-a-mole.

Empty the boot and put talc around the areas you think it's coming from, then you'll be able to track it easier.

Mondeo 2.5T Tit X 2008, in panther black, sportspack and privacy glass. Never seem another model like it in my area.

Hi there, I have my gf my 2009 titanium and we noticed a few weeks ago the boot carpet was wet. Upon taking all boot interior out found it was wet and water pooling in both sides of the car around the wheel well area that is behind the second skin of metal. Between the second skin and the cars main skin there is the black vents you mention and water is pooling in a dip in this space . But I can’t find what is leaking and causing this water getting in. Was is definitely the black vents that were leaking? And why leaking ? I had to get a camera to put in the gap as you can’t see it due to the metal skin in the way.
