I have had power steering pump issues so I bought a replacement off ebay the part lasted 4 months until it went. Wasn't that fussed as it had a years warranty got another and got refunded just had my mechanic fit it today bled the system fully and was a fine until the car was put on the ground the steering went completely solid and I think the new pump has seized. I'm looking to source another one as I'm thinking these are cheap copies if anyone has recommendations and was wondering was my mechanic doing anything wrong. He emptied reservoir then removed pump put new pump on and then put in fresh fluid whilst car is jacked up and engine is off turn steering wheel to pull through fluid then started the car whilst still in the air went from lock to lock and then dropped car back to floor and then its as if it had seized from there
All the fluid that is coming out of the system looks fine all be it a bit frothy from coming up through reservoir. We have put another brand new pump on this time and topped up the fluid the new pump is working but only when engine is revving. I think we may need to do a drain of the system followed by a fresh bout of fluid. Whilst doing this i think the pipes need checking.
Not familiar with this engine in a Mk4 but does it have a separate res for the fluid?
They have a filter in and they block over time, causes aeration and starves the pump of fluid.
