Hi, my 2006 2.2 tdci 114kw Mondeo estate has a gearbox failure - if I try to shift into 6th gear, it goes into 4th. It does not matter whether I’m driving or try to shift gears while stationary and the car is turned off, 6th gear is missing. Anyone experienced the same, how could I fix this?

Did it work previously or did you buy it like that?

Possibly just needs the cables adjusting, may need a good pull to the right to

engage 6th.

Worst case it needs a new gearbox.

Get someone sitting in the car to go through the gears, then watch the shift mechanism on the top of the gearbox. If it looks like it's doing exactly the same thing selecting 6th as it does 4th, then that needs more investigation.

I would certainly start there and with the cables. Could be a load of crap has got in there and is stopping the selector from moving far enough.

Every time i see your user name i think of Borsch (Borscht)? and Comrade Dad.

He could only dream of a Mondeo though having to make do with a Skrover?

Skoda/Rover welded together, never could find that episode though.

Wanting to change your MK3 4 LYFE to  Borsch(t) for life comrade.

I actually managed to engage the 6th gear. I have to shift from 5th gear to 6th and hold the shifter quite hard to the right edge and push it down with a fair bit of force. I will look in to the cables and hopefully by adjusting them it will be fine.
