Duratec HE - jerky throttle “when cold”

Hi,

2011 Duratec HE 2.0 with 67k miles.

It has a jerky throttle response from a cold start - it's fine when upto normal operating temp. In doing a bit of googling I've come up with someone else with the same problem some years ago (different forum), but the thread fizzed out and there was no resolution noted.

From what I can tell, it seems to be whilst the engine is in its Open loop mode - until it gets up to temp when it goes into closed loop and then all is well. This is the reason I was asking about temp sender in another thread. I've located that now and it's working ok according to my Bluetooth dongle. No stored codes.

My initial thoughts were that it could perhaps be a sticky throttle body or throttle pedal - but surely temp wouldn't make a difference to that? I'm loathed to start changing stuff willy nilly, however a new throttle body and pedal aren't too expensive I suppose. I throughly cleaned the body not so long ago & although it was dirty I've seen a lot worse.

It's been doing it ever since the car has been in my ownership - bought as a non-runner with a dead fuel pump. Now drives very well, when at temp anyway, with excellent MPG (averaging 40 on the trip computer) - although feels slightly underpowered and perhaps some hesitation whilst accelerating. Seems happiest when at speed on the motorway & has no trouble at all keeping up.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks - Rob
