Hi looking at updating my 2.0 ltr Petrol Titanium estate, been very happy with the car (2010 59reg )over the last 7 years with very few problems at mot, couple of exhaust hangars welded and rear bushes done last mot,

Been very happy with the 2 ltr petrol being very reliable and now on 138k and still uses no oil and drives like new, so my preference is for a 2.oltr petrol Titanium Estate Manual 2014-2016 and do not want diesel, but only ones that keep coming up are 1.5t/1.6t in various combinations,

I do realise that these rely on the turbo for the extra bhp above ths normally aspirated 2.0  but does this put extra stress on the engine against the reliable 2.0,

Due to being retired for a number of years and all family reasonably local, mileage is not heavy at best only fill up once a month so would be happy with anything up 100k and would not even consider diesel and not being sure what came out of ford over those years so would appreciate any advice of what to avoid or what to look for.

Personally I would choose the 2L if every last mpg and how much the tax costs is not the highest concern.

 

 

Not seen any super high mileage 1.6's for sale to compare. Fewer 2L petrol MK4.5 ones for sale though.

Alan, if you are going later than 59 plate, a petrol model will be Ecoboost - 2L is a nice car

Mpg or Tax is not a problem although usually I am lucky if I fill up once a month due to main trips are supermarket runs which makes Mpg dire  but on the odd trip to Leicester or Loughborough about 10 miles away easily achieve 35 mpg on the 2 Ltr

Must explain that both are mostly downhill to me and can achieve 60+ on the way their and and 35 on the way back.I am not truly familiar with whats available but my preference is a 2Ltr petrol which seems rare, Is the eco boost a normal aspirated 2Ltr petrol.

Apreciate the feedback, think I will look to see if I can find a parkers guide if its still published to see the model changes.

There are currently 16 2ltr ecoboost mondeos from 2013 on Autotrader.

You won't get a normally aspirated 2ltr on the 4.5.

 

Chances are it will be a powershift too (which Trevor will tell you all about if needed), just ensure the powershift box has been serviced every 3 years or 30k? miles.

Did notice all references I have seen to 2Ltr Ecoboost seem to be Autobox which is not a preference, will check Autotrader and couple of Auction sites, but choice has to be Titanium as minimum.

Did look at parkers site last night but had give up due to kept nodding off.

Yes, ecoboost will be auto - actually made by Getrag and also used in various Volvo models

It is the Getrag Powershift 6DCT450, has wet clutches and requires transmission oil and filter change every 3 years or 37,500 miles whichever occurs first.

DCT - means it is a dual clutch trans.  6 means it has 6 forward speeeds. 450 means the manufacturer confirms it will  safely cope with 450 newton metres of torque fron any power unit it is coupled to.

Recommend do not buy a veh unless there is clear documented proof (not just a stamp in a book) that this essential servicing has been carried out.

If you go into the Mondeo Drivetrain Section there are numerous threads on how to change the trans oil ans filter (It is the price of oil that causes the main cost, not labour time)

Thanks for the info very usefull, looks like I cant get my update and have to stay with my old faithfull which has served me well for seven years and is still a pleasure to drive at 138k

Keep the 2 litre - The 2.0L Duratec 16V is a solid engine which should keep on running so long as it's maintained. It's a port injected engine which should mean it won't succumb to the carbon issues with GDI engines and fuel related repairs are significantly cheaper.

 

The Ecoboost engines do not have a good track record for longevity, and a surprising number are getting scrapped/reconditioned.
