hey guys! My names Andrey, i come from the states. washington state to be exact. Ive been building and driving my 1999 mercury cougar (or ford if you prefer) since i was 16.

today the car is fully build all solid suspension 3.0L swap port and polished heads, full exhaust, full bolts ons, custom tune, and plenty more. too much to list honestly. it legally is a street car but it is too stiff for the streets and i pretty much only race it.

i am here because my custom coilover suspension has cracked and koni struts are discontinued for my platform and i know mondeo stuff is pretty close that might fit.

i noticed a few companies selling mondeo mk2 and mk3 and st220 coilovers but i dont know if they will fit for sure. the front and rear struts on my cougar are both McPherson design. the rear doesnt have a separate spring. and also they both slide into the knuckle. My main concern is the outside diameter of the bottom of the strut housing. I need to make sure it will fit US knuckles.

would any body be able to measure both front and rear bottom of the struts for me? or better have any specific pictures of suspension parts? being here in the US i cannot find any info between mk2 mk3 and st220 suspension. i have posted what mine front and rear struts look like (with a cut stock spring perch). i just need to kno wif any mondeo struts will fit directly or with some modification.

thanks guys!

Hi, welcome to TalkFord :)

This link is for catcar, that’s a site for parts for Ford Europe. It uses the same info that Ford dealers use to search for parts.

This may help you as you can look through the Cougar, Mondeo mk2 and mk3 sections to compare parts and part numbers.

Suspension on the MK3 Mondeo is different.  The Cougar is a MK2 Mondeo under the skin.

The Mondeo estates had separate springs, not the saloon / hatchbacks.

It’s nice to see that Duratec engine in something different.

What kind of hp do you have?

As above, the Cougar is a MK2 Mondeo underneath, more specifically the ST200 than a regular Mondeo (different wishbones but I don't know if the shocks are different) the link above should give you part numbers to compare.

thanks guys. so ill stick to looking into mk2. originally the company posted a mk3 coilover set and it looked similar. and i also googled mk3 rear strut and they look similar but different brackets. which isnt a big deal.

so you guys arnt sure if the regular mondeo and st220 have different struts? not counting rates or sports or whatever, just physical differences.

and thanks raynkar. im running about 230hp at the wheels. its got tons of low end torque. last year i got 1st place in my local autocross club. rear suspension is all custom built. i also designed my own front tubular lower control arms. and the front coilover use 240sx s13 camber plates with adapters. im just not sure about how to add more pictures

The 220 uses different shocks and springs.
The main difference with the shocks in on the rear, it has the bracket for the anti roll bar (sway bar) drop link in a different position to other mk3 Mondeos.

Hang on, wouldn't the Contour SVT have similar parts?
