Hi

Has anyone had this problem and can offer some advice please?

The rear wiper on my 2005 UK Mk2 Focus 1.6 has started not parking correctly.

Sometimes it will park halfway through a normal cycle, sometime it will complete a cycle and a bit, other times it will pause and then carry on later. It seems to work better if using wash than just the wiper but that may be my imagination.

I've taken the motor apart and cleaned it out fully, used wet/dry on all the contacts and the circular track, and cleaned up the motor bushes and commutator but to no avail.

I dont think this model has a removable relay for the rear wiper unless im mistaken.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Fabio

Is the park switch in the motor housing?  Was the cam the switch ran on moving?

Hi

The motor has 4 "fingers" that run on a circular track, all connected well.

The track has a deliberate break in it which I think denotes the park position.

I cleaned these up and ensured that they connected properly.

Im thinking that its more to do with a relay maybe.

Is there a seperate rear wiper relay in addition to those on the normal fusebox/relay board?

Thanks

SOLVED......

An update for anyone else who has the same problem.

I found a secondary relay in the boot,  passenger side behind the boot lining (see photo)

Part number   A1301-X17

The relay on mine was all rusted up and a £2 replacement off Ebay did the trick.

It now operates and parks beautifully.

What I think must happen is that the primary relay on this model (UK Mk2) is built into a PCB control unit. This relay sends a burst of power to the wiper...... controls the ON of the wiper but does not control the OFF.

The secondary relay (which is the one I replaced) receives a signal from the motor which senses the Park position, and the secondary relay then carries enough power to the motor until Park is achieved.

Hopes this makes sense !

Water leaking into the boot in that area?

Yes there possibly was - its cured now though - but that may be the reason why the relay rusted up so badly...
