Why not repair the pipe with your welder? You could slip a slightly larger diameter pipe over it and weld it all together or you could butt weld the pipe, but the sleeve will be easier to weld, would be cheaper than the bolt type joiner, and as you have a flange right next to it it serves no purpose anyway.

It would be a better end result, but in all honesty I hate welding under the car. I am fine on the bench in the garage but it just isn't fun under the car! Putting a bit of paste in and tightening a couple of bolts sounds so much nicer!
