Try local locksmith he may be able to read the lock for a key

Assuming you are being honest, and you aren’t the worlds most up and coming garage find thief!!!!

Is the car currently locked?

An auto locksmith will be able to determine what key you need and cut you one on the spot.

You could also buy tools online that will allow you to get the key profile yourself, then get one cut at some time after virus lockdown

I think that a lot of key workers wouldn’t consider this key working right now ;)

I can’t remember what type of blade the car you are asking about uses, but there are devices that work for just about all types of car key.

As a long shot, Is there any chance you still have the owners handbook for the car?

Key codes were often written into handbooks so the owner could get a new blade cut without having the original key.

Does the hole in the door lock/ignition barrel look like it’s for a flat sided key, or six sided key (known as a tibbe)?

Hi

As you can get access to barrel of door lock you may find key number on barrel.

Wife owned an XR3i of similar age and key always felt stiff in ignition. Eventually broke off in lock so stripped out door to find number for a replacement tibbe key. On receiving the correct replacement found the original provided with car was a totally different number.
