The display has gone very dim to the point of not being able to read it.

Apart from that the unit functions fine.
can anyone suggest a repair ?

This is the 3rd one to fail in 30 years lol,

The 2 bulbs behind the display are ok as I took them out and tested the continuity with a multimeter, so it must be a component fault on either the display board or the main board, because I also swapped the front panel with a front panel from an identical unit with a good display and it made no difference.

There are 5 boards in mine, the front preset button board, led display board behind that one, main board at the base of the unit, tuner board at the back and another fitted vertically on the left hand side.

No joy on ebay unless i want to spend £200 on a secondhand one.

Not sure if you can still get them from Ford Germany brand new for 198 euros.

There is a version of the fd2007m that has the same connectors for the remote amp and cd player/cd changer head unit but again, as rare as hen's teeth.

Complain to Ford in a jolly letter whilst asking if its still covered under a warranty.  :)

You never know.

Maybe just a voltage regulator to the bulbs. Check the voltage or see if its a pwn controller.

Does the dash dimmer work?  Compare the brightness of the old bulbs and some new ones

although i doubt thats the issue. More likely to be a voltage or pwn issue.
