Currently stripping engine for a rebuild. Last part to take off is camshaft. All followers removed, camshaft retaining plate removed. The only thing left in the block is the camshaft.
It turns freely but will only pull out 3 to 4mm then ‘clonk’ it hits the block but can’t see where. According to manual it should just pull out! Am I missing something? Any ideas?

Hi

Is there a drive to Distributor or oil pump holding cam in position, I’m sure it was possible to swap these cams in car if radiator was removed.

Hi
Distributor and oil pump all removed. There is literally just the camshaft in the block. I’ve stripped few engines and normally the cam just slides out. This one is really bugging me!
Cheers
James

Have you removed all the followers from inside the block with a magnet? If you have and you’ve removed the retaining plate (2 big screws) and the thrust plate and spacer then it should just slide out, you have to keep it straight and level so that the lobes don’t catch on the bearings.
