Hi, I am in Australia.  My lovely old Cougar has a puzzle.  Intermittently the ABS and handbrake lights come on together, handbook says a serious brake fault. Happens once every three days or so.  They seldom light up on a cold start, usually on a hot start and perhaps when parked on a slope. Had it looked at by several mechanics and electrical experts, who say that when the lights are off the vehicle checks out as normal with no fault logged.  When the lights are on the brake system refuses to be interrogated.  Mechanically the brakes are reported as OK and certainly feel OK.  Even took it out on wet grass when the lights were on and the ABS activated normally.  This funny fault will make the car scrap when it causes a fail at the next annual vehicle test.  Have improved earthing to box as suggested by some, no effect.  Any ideas anyone?  Thanks, John.  PS thought about replacing ABS unit but they are very expensive when new here, no used part available.

I had this on my old ST24 (year 2000 registration), everything checked ok like your does and in the end I replaced the ABS pump.

I would have thought the pump on yours is the same as a late Mondeo.

Dear fembrit

Had the ABS module posted off for service in Sydney, they "found a fault", repaired it. Now 10 days since refit, no warnings!  Many thanks, Perdix
