How's it going have a mk5 Mondeo 180ps 93000miles
Car is building excess pressure in the coolant tank this blowing out coolant
Changed the water pump ( found the original, unit was rubbing the block)
Replac d the thermostat unit as well
Also done a sniff test on the engine at hot and cold and no sign of head gasket issues
Has any one come across this problem
Thanks

hi Owen . im not sure of this but a sniff test only afaik  gives indication if coolant is leaking from the head of hoses on the engine outer parts but if the head gasket was leaking in to the inner cavitiea ie cylinder s or oil ports etc it would not necessarily show on a sniff test but you would need ot test the oil for water at the sump nut or it would possibly need a cylinder or block pressure test to acertain if the head was leaking .. also check the oil cooler unit . really a mechaics or dealershilps issue .. thei older mk3 s ofter sprung and oil cooler leak and oil would ingress into the cooannt tank as the oil pbessure it greater.

What else is the water cooling on that engine?  Turbo or Oil cooler?  EGR cooler?

Assuming its not overfilled or airlocks thats causing it to blow out.  New thermostat

sticking closed?

What temperature is the engine reaching and how quickly?  Use an OBD reader dont

trust the actual gauge.
