Hi all ,changed my dampers (2000 mk4 i think fiesta) compressed spring removed circlip, removed top rubber mount, removed spring , put all back onto new damper. Fed shock up into hole fixed bolt at bottom ,put on top cap and nylok nut in the boot . What stops the damper coming through the top cap.i cant see what locks the damper rod tk stop it just extending into the boot area, driving me mad .

Single bot fixing on the top not the 3 bolt type?  The single bolt holds down the

retaining plate.

90% of the stress is pushing up against the bodywork so little stress actually

pulling the shock downwards.

I see what your saying ,but i tighten the top nut it just pulls the damper rod through, nothing seems to stop the damper rod from pushing through,
Does the top nut compress the upper mount to hold it

Large rubber damper and cup on the underside prevent it pushing through.
