It doesn't really say WHAT is different though!
And MORE SOPHISTICATED usually also means MORE EXPENSIVE when it comes to maintenance

Edit:
Ok the other links in #2 give more info. So basically uprating injectors. Changing induction tracts separating cylinder 1&2 and 3&4.

Offsetting the crankshaft is interesting though.

Whether I'd say revolutionary though I probably wouldn't.

Do the current diesels have a cam belt in oil though, I guess there is only so far you can take engines now anyway they all can only be evolutionary...

Some do yes. The 1.8 S-Max for example has a wet belt as its called between the crank and fuel pump and a std belt between the fuel pump and cam pulley.

Every manufacturer is trying to 'recolutionise' the industry. Have been for years. And yes emissions and economy has vastly improved over the years and this is just another way for ford to try improve these factors.

Give me a banana engine in a smiley transit (mk5, mk4, mk3) anyday compared to a modern diesel.

Yes, it might be a bit slow, but i'd prefer to get there, without having to stop off for a £600 set of injectors, a £600 pump and a gallon of pig p1ss. :L

I've just replaced the fuel pump, injectors and lift pump on my dads mk5 banana engine. It's so simple at one point after I'd done it I thought "I'm sure I must of missed something. Believe it or not the hardest part was 1 nut under the lift pump.

And I see the egr is blanked too ;)

if he's the right pump, has he turned the power up? (the nut under the cap on top of the pump). I know of a how-to link if it has not been done.

egr is a compulsory tweak really :D
