Thank you for explaining what a DMF is. Just heard my new MK 5 arrives at the dealers on the 25th May. Wish I never knew that, I can't collect mine until mid July and know it's there waiting for me will be agony. That means the car will be stood around for 2 months. Does anyone know if standing around that amount of time will damage the car ?

after filling it up with 54 litres , I worked out it's doing 38 mpg not as it states 48 mpg on the display, I suspect this chip I've added has buggered up the computers calculations. I'm going to remove it now and see how much I get on another tank

There's too much negative statements about DMF and how unreliable they are. POPPYCOCK. Clutch plates go well before the DMF does. I know of DMF'S lasting 100's of thousands of miles and twice as long as clutch plates.
Too many DMF's have been junked with loads of life left in them coz of scare stories.
Hope all you mk5 mondy owners are happy.
Maybe next year I'll be one coz the seed has been planted.

Maybe, however they do have a reputation and many replace there's with a solid flywheel and live with the vibrations. Mine on my Audi went after just 5000 miles, could always have been a rogue part but they certainly seem to be a weak point on many diesels..

Oh dear solid flywheel replacement and vibrations. I'll put money on those cars crankshafts snapping before long. I've read that's happened to a number of poor sods on other forums.
