Hey gang

So another month, another electrical failure! :)

My MK2 has developed a problem with the interior fan. Whichever setting you have it on, it acts as if you've selected the 'windscreen' fan option - so the front-facing and footwell fans don't come on and every option (other than 'OFF') blows air at the windscreen only. Whether AC is on or off.

Any ideas?

Yes pretty much. And the "off" still works so it's not as if it's stuck in position.... unless maybe there's something wrong with an electrical track?

not 100% on this and my manual is at my mates so can't check, but i think its vacuum operated, so might be the connection is off on the back.

Not sure what that means but I guess taking the panel off and dissassembling it should be the starting point?

I take it this isn't a fuse thing - if it was it would all be off right?

iirc vacuum operates the directional control when you turn the knob. i believe there is only pipework on the back of the switch, the temp one is cable operated, the fan is a multiplug.

Here's the wiki to pop it out anyway...

Hey Man, I've already had this problem with my Mondy, the solution was, disassembling the Air pannel as siruncle told in the Link and then disassembling the velocities control switch, then inside the piece there is a Little rubber piece that was the problem of my air vacuum system, as I am in Brasil with not so many Mondeos it was so hard to replace the piece, then a have maded another piece of rubber, fortunately it has the same function the first one had, but the vaccum is flowing out through this, when i turn of the motor in 2 or 3 minutes there is no more vaccuum in the system.
Try disassembling this and checking this piece, may be the problem...

Sorry for the english..
Thanks!!

Hey all, I don't know if the same rules apply to MK3, but I've got the same problem.

EATC. Basically, it seems air is only being directed to the windscreen and the two side blower aimed at the front windows near the mirrors.

When pressing the direction buttons I can hear motors whirring, and i can also feel a slight warm blow of air in the passenger footwell, however the rear seats get no airflow at all. - EDIT I can only hear motors whirring when I press the front vent button. The windscreen and footwell buttons (although they light up) don't seem to make any noise behind the dash.

I took this photo of what I'm assuming are direction flaps (in white). The front one turns back and forth when the front vents button are pushed. The back one doesn't move at all. Could this be the culprit?

PS . The right hand side of the photo is towards the cabin, the left hand side is towards the front of the car.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Don't know if you got it sorted, but I had the same problem with mine - you will need to replace the heater control panel, as already said, the system operates by vacuum and the seals inside the direction and fresh/recirc controls fail which then defaults to all air being directed to defrost.

If you take the control panel out, unplug the vacuum hoses from the back, look at the back of the control & if the seals have failed there will probably be some gooey green slimey looking stuff in the airways

If it has t*ts or tyres .... It's gonna cost you!!
