Hi, the heater in my mondeo has decided to stop working. It blows in cold no problem at all. The dial goes round from cold to hot without a problem, and all 4 fan strengths work. Any ideas where to start? :)

Thermostat packed up?

Was it a sudden failure? Is there any difference at all between hot and cold?

my name is Mark.

It was on cold all summer, then I was out the other evening and it got a bit chilly so I turned it round about half way, it was a bit sluggish and did stick, I'm afraid I just pushed thru the resistance, I suspect I broke it!! And no, there's no difference at all between hot and cold.

The hot/ cold flap siezes up on the side of the heater unit (up in the drivers footwell) does the hot/ cold knob spring back round when you try to set it to hot? the cable usually kinks causing this.

Where does the cable run? Also is there any way of just removing the single panel with the knobs in it?

Any help would be much appreciated. I dont want to have to start wearing a balaclava in the car!

Steve, the hot/cold knob did spring back initially until I forced it round to hot. Now it moves round between hot and cold quite freely but with no difference in temperature.

I've got a haynes manual but I'm at a loss to know where to start looking and I really can't afford to get a garage to look at it at the mo. I need to get it sorted, running 2 kids around in a cold car ain't fun!!

I think the lever that gets operated by the cable can be found on a bit of black plastic - look kinda to the left of the clutch pedal

Hi. Does the fan blow out only on the windscreen?? if so have a failure in one of the vacuum lines. if these fail the vents default to windscreen. this can be tricky to find as a starter mine failed in the engine bay where the vacuum line was rubbing on a fuel line near the brake servo under the inlet manifold area. hope this helps

This is Denny D. ( next prob to yours)Have you have a look at the help I had. Mine is now fixed.
Suggest. Can you feel the Knob pulling the cable or does it feel as if the cable has come off the end of the knob racket. You should feel some resistance. If not see what I did. Denny D My feet are now nice and warm !!
