Hi All,

My first post and hello, i have a 2001 1300cc with the endura engine with blown head gasket, compression test was 30psi 2 and 3 cyl, and blowing water out of the expansion tank,my question is can the inlet manifold be pushed back with all the manifold bolts removed, dont really want to remove all the sensor wires and other bits if it can, also can the exhaust manifold be brought forward to clear the head, my Ka has a/c and the haynes manual says the a/c pipes have to removed to remove the exhaust manifold,

Cheers . savi18

Hi, sorry, can't answer your question but I have "bumped" the thread so the "number of views" counter starts working.

Fault on the system - until a reply post is made the view counter does not work!!!

2001 Endura engie will be the old 'kent' engine and from memory of Fiestas of the era i think the inlet can just be slid back out of the way BUT to do that, you will have to get the exhaust out of the way first so you can lift the head off the dowells and slide it forward slightly, so will need the pushrods etc all removed first (obviously) to do it. theyre not, from memory, an alloy head, so easily done because theyre small and light enough to handle.

When reassembling, also make sure that the valve clearances are set to the updated settings (they did change for a while but they changed back, and think 2001 will be after the revision to the wider exhaust valve clearances) as they were known for burning valves out on the exhaust side when they were at the smaller 0.3mm setting instead of the 0.5mm setting that the updated clearances were set at. inlet remains at 0.2mm

Have now removed the cyl head and what a pig, have left the inlet manifold insitue with everything connected to it my question is the long mounting bracket that attaches to the inlet manifold which has only one wire running through it has anybody left this off because them manifold bolts are very difficult to get out with that bracket running across i cannot not see why having a long mounting bracket that has only one wire running through it has any use. what you guys think.

Ford wont have put it there just for fun. its probably some sort of stabiliser bar or similar. without seeing it in situ, or having a complete car in front of me its difficult to say for sure. it could be a support bracket for the weight of the inlet manifold, for example.
