Just come to start the car and there was big water puddle underneath, looks like a leak from water pump.
Also temp gauge doesnt move at all ,stays in middle even when engine off and cooled down.
Any ideas ?
just a gasket for water pump?
car is a 2000 2.0 ghia x

cheers

i'd top it up with water then run it and see if can see any leaks from hoses, then look at parts (pump, thermostat housing etc) if coming from pump area it could be knackered pump as when they go water comes out a little hole in the housing of the pump. it could also be from the metal pipe that runs under the engine below the bottom crankshaft pulley.

if zetec i'm afraid, and pretty sure, its behind the cambelt cover, http://emeng.gentlyh...oling/Part2.htm (sorry is from westfield site but was 1st came across)
usually if thermostat fails if closed will overheat, if open will take ages to warm up. my 2.0 mk2 now up to running temp within about 3 miles (today). thermostats (if zetec) about £12 ish, if enclosed in plastic thingy you're prob looking at a lot more as its built into this plastic housing (one of reasons had another mk2) might be the temp sensor, again zetec one was £10.52 from ford, if same as mine, was held in by a clip on top of thermostat housing, in front of ignition coil. http://www.talkford...._1#entry1476412 have a look at my post, for finis code from ford.

when pop bonnet and look at engine it on right at end of cylinder head. think held on by 3 bolts, (zetec) i *think* you'll need a new gasket, to fit your replacement housing. my mk2 has a plastic housing maybe yours has too, if this the case when refitting don't go mad as you can crack it easily, i've read the silvertop ones not compatible as a hole slightly different and they're metal. if you only got 1 sensor in it you'll need the 1 sensor housing (have seen plastic with two) think probably a coil off job for access but it a pretty easy job otherwise. might be good idea to use torque wrench to tighten bolts up (if available). the sensor(s) should re-seal in new housing but if don't may need a bit of plumbing tape on threads (unless circlip type sensor as has rubber seal on it) if is a gasket make sore you clean both surfaces well.

With regards to the temp gauge staying at half i thought this was normal. our 1998 1.8 verona does this. when you put the key in in the morning and turn it it goes down then.

temp gauge is staying at half, even with key out and car left to cool down overnight...faulty sensor or normal?
