I have a 2.0ltr black top and its leaking coolant. Its leaking from the thermostat housing and what ever this bit is seems to be missing. This isnt my photo, all i have done is felt underneath it and there is a hole that feels roughly where this thing is and about the right size.

so what is it and have i some how lost it!?

It's a temp sensor. Should be one on the top and bottom of the housing. If that bottom sensor wasn't there you'd loose all the coolant within 30 seconds.

What year is the car? I think some of the real late ones don't have the bottom sensor.

This ones dosnt seem to have any wires coming from it and mine dosnt either. I can defo feel with my hand a hole with threads in it. There is coolant leaking from it, but very slowley. The hole has something about 1/2 an inch in, feels like metal so it definetely not going straight into the housing and letting coolant pour out when the thermostat opens.

Edit: its a Y reg, so 2001. Would make sense that the later models have a plug type thing that mine has lost maybe???

I might just be some sort of bung to plug the hole up. Mine is a 2000 and has both sensors. Is that the only place it leaks?

Im not entirely sure, to get a proper look ill need to get the battery out and maybe undo the air box. The hole feels wet but so does the whole of the bottom of the housing. There definetley is not a sensor like yours though and there is not anything that looks like that photo i stuck up or the picture of the one on ebay.

Bloody car :angryfire: Flew threw the MOT about 2 weeks ago and now had nothing but problems with it!

Well got another look last night with the inspection lamp, i dont have the second sensor its a blocked hole. Not sure where its leaking. Does anyone know if a unit from a 1.8 is the same? i.e. can i try and get this one and fit it?

Mine's a 2000 and only has 1 sensor

Try saying 'beer can' without sounding like a Jamaican saying 'bacon'
